The Cat

I had just got through watching Whisper of the Heart1 via DVD rental from Netflix. Both the girlfriend and I really enjoyed this one. I've added it to the list of "Anime to get on DVD when I get the spending money to do so".

Not much more to say about this one; it was a rather cute story about a girl who falls in love and pursues her dream of becoming a writer.

  1. 1. The title of this post is a play on The Cat Returns, which was essentially a sequel of sort of the story written by Shizuku in Whisper of the Heart. The Cat Returns is also a rather cute movie, though I think Whisper of the Heart is, overall, superior.

That's pretty much my policy on the movie too! The Cat Returns is a fun family film, but this one resonated with me more.

I watched it on FilmFour actually (hence why I don't have a DVD of it), which had an interesting, if unintentional side-effect. Pom Poko was on immediately before WotH (and was quite a disappointment actually) but the artwork of the closing scene of the former seemed to be almost identical to that at the beginning of the latter...which is odd when there's about a year between the two of them production-wise. I know both movies are set in the same area of the country, but it was unnerving to see that happen when watching both back-to-back!

Back o/t, I did love WotH, even the ending. It had a subtlety and air of introspection that I've really come to appeciate in recent years.

Re: The Cat
