A Spur of the Moment

in

It feels good to give a gift to someone who I never met face-to-face, but only know each other through words.

In any case, Merry Christmas to all. Hope all of you have happy holidays, and at least a better next year than how mine will be starting.

Re: A Spur of the Moment

Happy christmas to you too. If it makes you feel any better I'll be doing a lot of time over the next few weeks so my new year probably won't be much to write home about either!

Re: A Spur of the Moment

In saying 'doing time' I meant overtime at work! I won't be in jail over new year's or anything, although if it weren't for the extra pay it would feel like I am.

Re: A Spur of the Moment

LOL, my first thought was that you meant time at work; I didn't even think of jail at all...

In any case, I'm not sure how I feel about when people say "if it makes you feel better"; on one hand, I'm against any spreading of misery, but on the other hand, knowing that I'm not alone in the "suffering" does give some psychological help at times.

Still, losing your job because of economic realities is not something I would wish on anybody else.

Re: A Spur of the Moment

Speaking of friends you've never met face-to-face, what's going on? I'd love to give you a gift of that rare Makoto Shinkai project that you've never seen - but I don't have anything like that, and if I did it'd probably be because you sent it to me.

I take it you lost your job?

Re: A Spur of the Moment

Hmm.. there's always Blu-ray versions; just got a player for an early Christmas present. But it really isn't necessary.

Yeah, I'm losing my job. Construction going down the tubes mean that the suppliers (our clients) start dropping demand for my services, so the company had to let me go. I'm a bit stressed out, but really shouldn't worry too much in reality, at least not yet. They will be coming to me on a contractual basis in the future, so going freelance might be an option (an ideal one if I can work part time and get enough to pay the bills, leaving me more time to study and develop new skills). Plus I should be able to get a job in just about any IT position locally (or nationally if I want to move).

Shoot me an email, Nick. I need your address.
