Ghost Hunt - Episodes 4-6 - The Doll's House
After a rather slow introduction, the entire gang makes an appearance in this arc which included two of the most creepy episodes I've witnessed in anime. The series is a fairly mild horror, with a few jump scenes here and there, but episodes 4 and 5 got the bone-chilling creepiness way up there! This arc centers around hauntings of a little eight year old girl, her step mother, her aunt, her doll, and a gigantic mansion.
How the heck does this girl sleep with this doll, I don't know. It's one of those porcelain-looking dolls with a rather odd expression on its face. Though the doll itself isn't evil, the entity that used it as a vessel is something else. Heck, the doll is used in one of the horrifying scene in the anime, as the characters watch the doll move on its own distorted on a TV monitor.
As it is, the doll is indestructible, even to fire as the monk tries to burn it. It takes John exorcising the spirit from it before the doll could be destroyed. Once that doll was out of the picture, the series took a serious dive in creepiness in my opinion. That doll's face will be invading my dreams, that's for sure.
It's nice that all of the characters got to play a part in this arc. I have a strong suspicion that Mai, especially, has some psychic ability of her own, as especially shown here with her dream about the ghost mother's past. She also seems to have some link with Naru (the nickname for Shibuya). As to what this is exactly will probably not be made clear for some amount of time, but I do hope it's further explored.
The sixth episode finally shows that Naru does have some of his own abilities and just doesn't rely on his equipment and investigative skills. It'll be interesting to see more of his abilities in the future.
