The Flowering of Cat Soup

I originally wanted to write about Fuyumi Ono's interview I linked to earlier and do some analysis of The Twelve Kingdoms: Sea of Shadows novel I had just finished reading yesterday, but Astro and Fledgling Otaku got me distracted on Cat Soup instead. Thanks guys! This time, I wanted see just how many times and where this flower appeared that I was talking about in my comments to them.

First Flower - 2:17

This flower appears in the sequence after Nyatta falls in the water and just before the ants. The Camera is moving from the street to the room where Nyaako lay near death. This flower appears in the sequence after Nyatta falls in the water and just before the ants. Second Flower - 5:08

This is the first time most people notice the flower, when God/Death "says" it.This is the first time most people notice the flower, when God/Death "says" it.

Third Flower - 6:16

This flower with the spider on it appears just after Nyaako gets half of her soul back from her brother. This flower with the spider on it appears just after Nyaako gets half of her soul back from her brother.

Fourth Flower - 6:20

This is the same flower as #3, but further away. I'm sure it's also the same flower as #1.This is the same flower as #3, but further away. I'm sure it's also the same flower as #1.

Fifth Flower - 27:55

We now go over 20 minutes as we watch Nyaako and Nyatta travel through this bizarre journey before we see the flower again. This time, we are in the world of tin, and Nyatta uses the flower to "wake" Nyaako up.We now go over 20 minutes as we watch Nyaako and Nyatta travel through this bizarre journey before we see the flower again. Ok, so it didn't really appear as many times as I thought. Basically, it only appeared in 3 separate scenes in the first six and a half minutes (If I consider the third and fourth flower as part of the same scene) and it didn't reappear until it is used to wake Nyaako up. I wonder why I'm drawn to it?

As a pointless side bonus, in the picture that repeats in the end credits, Nyatta gets distracted by a crab. And the music box music was just genius...
