Black Lagoon with Beretta 92FS
I had finished Black Lagoon last night. Pretty fun action show; though usually I like heavier series, I do like to just sit back and enjoy a show once in a while. It's unfortunate that the finale felt a slight bit underwhelming, but that's also due to the fact that the series was structures more of a series of arcs as the Lagoon Company perform various jobs. As it were, the characters really didn't grow much until the final arc, and even the final arc didn't see much change in the characters1. That said, this is more of an action series than anything; I came for the gunfights (and the occasional sword fight).
I do have to give props to the audio engineers for this release: the DTS 5.1 dub sounds excellent on my setup. Yeah, for those watching on 2 speakers or headphones it doesn't make much of a difference, but if you do have a 5.1 (or better) sound system and watching the dub, I highly recommend switching to the DTS 5.1 track2.
Oh, as for the pic, I happened to be cleaning out my stock Beretta 92FS and found it amusingly appropriate, given Revy's two custom Beretta M92s "Sword Cutlass". Yeah, I could refinish my frame with the Inox finish, get custom grips, get a blank Inox slide and engrave it, and a custom barrel, but really, I'm not that big of a fan of the series and I really want to keep my Beretta stock3.
Anyways, the series was fun and violent. Some viewers may be put off by how almost every character fights mercilessly (I.E., how Revy will kill her opponents when they surrender), but I just take it in stride.
- 1. Which may have been what gave the "underwhelmed" feel to the end for me. Though that might be relieved with an OAV release scheduled as a "third season", as the box set contained the first two TV seasons.
- 2. And heck, the English Dub itself was pulled off really well, for that matter.
- 3. Now, if I get a second one and have money available, that would be a different story...
