Cat Soup

Kirin, slice of life, canibalistic pigs, oh my!

There's quite a bit that I've been meaning to write about, but I just haven't had the energy to just write even when I had the time. For example, I've been meaning to do an analysis on Anime News Networks interview with Fuyumi Ono for some time now. I've also finished the official English translation of Ono's The Twelve Kingdoms: Sea of Shadows several days back, and was itching to write about that one too; I'll probably end up combining my thoughts in those in one big post later. Also, I got up to episode 5 of Asatte no Houkou, and want to note some stuff down here before continuing, but for some reason, I can't just sit down and write it. Rather frustrating, as I'm now writing this at work, when I should be coding! Well, it is the end of the day, and I'm about to head out to get some dinner before coming back to work on this current project...

So, instead of watching more of Asatte no Houkou, I've started on a series that I've watched a while ago and been enjoyed that Rosepetals is currently blogging about currently: Infinite Ryvius. I'm up to episode 5 of that, but most of my discussion of the series will probably on her site.

Oh, thanks to Don for pointing me to something I can spring on my guests this Saturday when I hold another "Anime Evening" at my house. Hopefully, the last part of the title of this post would give a clue as to what that is...

The Flowering of Cat Soup

I originally wanted to write about Fuyumi Ono's interview I linked to earlier and do some analysis of The Twelve Kingdoms: Sea of Shadows novel I had just finished reading yesterday, but Astro and Fledgling Otaku got me distracted on Cat Soup instead. Thanks guys! This time, I wanted see just how many times and where this flower appeared that I was talking about in my comments to them.

Cat Soup - Flower #5

Cat Soup - Flower #5

We now go over 20 minutes as we watch Nyaako and Nyatta travel through this bizarre journey before we see the flower again. This time, we are in the world of tin, and Nyatta uses the flower to "wake" Nyaako up.

Cat Soup - Flower #4

This is the same flower as #3, but further away. I'm sure it's also the same flower as #1.

Cat Soup - Flower #3

Cat Soup - Flower #3

This flower with the spider on it appears just after Nyaako gets half of her soul back from her brother.

Cat Soup - Flower #2

Cat Soup - Flower #2

This is the first time most people notice the flower, when God/Death "says" it.

Cat Soup - Flower #1

Cat Soup - Flower #1

This flower appears in the sequence after Nyatta falls in the water and just before the ants. The Camera is moving from the street to the room where Nyaako lay near death.

Cat Soup - Nyatta loses his arm

I was reading fledgling otaku's "Mostly Harmless" entry on Haibane.info and the following phrase, for some reason, brought up this scene from Cat Soup in my admittedly warped mind:

Anime Night

Anime Night

Well, the pic was of a test run of playing the Byousoku 5 cm episode on my roommate's 42" TV. My DVD player hooked up to it (OPPO OPDV97IH) can play XviD and DivX files, so it was a matter of converting the original WMV file to uncompressed AVI, inserting hard subs into the video, and encoding it with XviD.
